Four days earlier, Coulson had convened an agents' meeting aboard his personal aircraft—the Air Bus. Everyone in attendance was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s few Level 8 Agents.
They included Elizabeth Hand, who had overseen the rescue operation after Coulson's previous kidnapping; Coulson's old friend John Garrett; the highly capable Agent Blake; and Sitwell. There was only one purpose for convening this meeting: to capture the legendary Clairvoyant.
A gathering of senior agents on this scale was, strictly speaking, against protocol. But breaking protocol seemed to have become Coulson's specialty lately.
"Garrett, what is that smell on you?" Coulson had insisted on waiting until they reached an altitude of five thousand feet before officially beginning the meeting, in order to ensure its security, so they had some free time. Sitwell wrinkled his nose and asked John Garrett with a look of disgust, "Why do you smell so strongly of dirt?"
"Do I? I clearly showered." John Garrett seemed unconvinced. He grabbed his leather jacket and sniffed it hard before explaining, "Oh, you know. My recent assignments have all involved bomb shelters and tunnels. Once, I nearly got buried under the ceiling of a safe house. It's inevitable that some of the smell would stick to me."
"So that's it." Sitwell nodded as if he only half understood. "I suggest that, aside from washing yourself, you should probably dry-clean the clothes you're wearing too."
Sitwell had another task aboard this plane. Alexander Pierce had sent him to make one final confirmation regarding John Garrett's loyalty.
