Chapter 912: 905 Is Anxious
Today was destined to be an extraordinary day. It was already late at night, yet Alexander Pierce had not returned home as usual. Instead, he remained in his office, waiting for news. He had personally given the order to assassinate Nick Fury, but the result he received was that Nick Fury had escaped at the very last moment.
He had sent so many people and even dispatched the Winter Soldier to assist, yet Fury had still gotten away. Hmph. With such ability, it seemed he truly had not misjudged him back then. Pierce felt anger toward his subordinates, but also a trace of relief. More than anything else, though, he felt uneasy.
If Nick Fury had truly escaped, then this was like startling the snake and letting the tiger return to the mountain. Trouble would inevitably follow sooner or later. His unease lasted until the early hours of the morning, when Sitwell came to report Nick Fury's death.
After hearing the news, Pierce did not cheer. Instead, he sat silently in his chair for a long time before letting out a long sigh. "He... really died?"
There was both joy and sorrow in that sigh. He was glad that Nick Fury, his greatest threat, had finally died and would never obstruct him again. As for the sorrow... he had known Nick Fury for many years. They might not have spent every day together, but they had worked alongside each other for a long time. How could there have been no friendship at all?
Although he had known from the beginning that he and Nick Fury stood on different sides and would one day become enemies, Hydra members had received special training that allowed them to sever such bonds at critical moments. But people were not
