"Woo!"
The howls of Deadwalkers drifted in from all around from time to time.
"Damn it!"
Han Jiang stepped out of the courtyard, gripped the Muramasa of Bizen in his hand, and backed up a few steps. Muttering, he said, "Is this supposed to be a rescue? Isn't this more like a bugle call for the Deadwalkers to charge?"
After the sirens and shouted announcements began, dozens of scythe-wielding Deadwalkers gradually approached Han Jiang.
Fortunately, Deadwalkers were formed through Honkai Energy corrosion, so there was no risk of viral infection or anything like that. The sooner he reached the rescue team, the sooner he would be out of danger.
The dozen or so Deadwalkers before him were not much of a threat to Han Jiang after he had claimed the system's gift package.
What Han Jiang had not expected was that the weapon-wielding Deadwalkers were far stronger than the three he had chopped to death earlier.
Even when the Muramasa of Bizen struck them, it produced the clang of metal colliding.
"Domain Gear activated!"
Han Jiang silently called out, and the D-rank Domain Gear officially activated. He immediately felt a considerable increase in his speed, agility, and strength.
With the Domain Gear's boost, dealing with the Deadwalkers before him was not quite like slicing through melons and vegetables, but he was in no danger of being undone by a careless slip.
"Inch Punch, Mountain Collapse!"
As Han Jiang hacked at Deadwalkers while running toward the combat team members, a crisp, powerful, and pleasant voice sounded beside his ear.
The Deadwalkers around him scattered like rice stalks in the wind. Han Jiang stared blankly toward the source of the voice.
Straight ahead, a black-clad girl wearing red-framed glasses looked calmly at Han Jiang. "Don't be afraid. You'll be fine as long as you stay by my side."
The girl's voice was gentle and steady, carrying an inexplicable sense of safety to Han Jiang.
"Black Tiger Fu?" Han Jiang stared at Fu Hua in a daze.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The sound of something slicing through the air suddenly rang out beside him. In the blink of an eye, Fu Hua reached Han Jiang's side and punched the Deadwalker that had been preparing to ambush him dozens of meters away.
The Deadwalker sent flying by the punch slammed into a wall, twitched twice, and stopped moving.
Han Jiang's eyelids twitched. He did not dare say anything foolish and obediently followed behind Fu Hua.
After saving Han Jiang, Fu Hua naturally did not stop. Her goal was to eliminate more Deadwalkers and reduce the rescue team's burden.
Even with Han Jiang, a burden in tow, Fu Hua still eliminated the Deadwalkers with ease.
Now that he had come to this world and had a super nanny like Fu Hua at his side—
Han Jiang would not pass up such a good training opportunity. He looked for chances to trade blows with isolated Deadwalkers.
He also helped Fu Hua share some of the pressure.
Of course, Han Jiang genuinely wanted to train himself, but as for sharing Fu Hua's pressure?
Heh. Immortal Fu Hua probably did not even know how to write the word "pressure."
After punching away several approaching Deadwalkers, Fu Hua glanced at Han Jiang beside her and thought, He can resist the corrosion of a small amount of Honkai Energy and has some ability to protect himself. With more training, he could become a talented member of the combat team.
Ding: Fu Hua's Affection +10! Notice: When Affection reaches 60, you will obtain the skill Inch Punch.
Han Jiang froze at the system chime. He turned to look at Immortal Fu Hua, who was cutting a dashing figure as she took down one Deadwalker with every punch, utterly bewildered.
What was going on? Was it really that easy to gain Fu Hua's affection?
Could it be that Immortal Fu Hua, who looked so detached from worldly desires, liked pretty boys like him?
As he thought about it, the corners of Han Jiang's mouth curled upward.
Fu Hua frowned, glanced at Han Jiang, and said, "What are you grinning foolishly for? Don't leave after we clear out the Deadwalkers here. I need to speak with you."
Fu Hua's verbal acknowledgment made Han Jiang hack at the Deadwalkers with even greater vigor, but the system mercilessly chimed and informed him that Fu Hua's Affection had decreased by 4.
"???"
Affection could reach a maximum of 100 and could even fall below zero. In the game, Fu Hua had been placed in the secretary slot, and repeatedly tapping on her would raise her Affection.
But after interacting with the real Fu Hua, Han Jiang was completely baffled.
Not knowing why he had lost Affection, Han Jiang decided to blame it on the complicated thoughts of girls.
Half an hour later, the zombies and Deadwalkers in the urban-rural fringe had mostly been cleared out. Fu Hua left the scattered remaining Deadwalkers to the combat team members.
After giving the team members some instructions, Fu Hua led Han Jiang toward the village entrance.
The people of this world had long grown accustomed to the appearance of Honkai, and there were contingency plans and experience for handling it in every respect.
When Fu Hua and Han Jiang arrived, combat team members were reporting the details of this Honkai outbreak to their captain.
"This Honkai outbreak is D-rank. The urban-rural fringe is at the center of the outbreak. An estimated three hundred villagers have turned into Deadwalkers. One hundred eighty-three Deadwalkers have been dealt with so far."
"Notify all personnel to quickly eliminate the Deadwalkers and rescue the survivors. Minimize the danger caused by this Honkai outbreak," said someone who appeared to be the captain.
"Wait here. I'm going to handle a few things." After saying that, Fu Hua left Han Jiang where he was and walked toward the combat team captain.
Once things had become safe, Han Jiang sat on a stone bollard by the roadside and examined the finest sword in the village, as well as the system he had obtained.
The two-star treasured sword, the Muramasa of Bizen, had already developed chips. It had done its share of work.
Still, it had cut down quite a few Deadwalkers, so it had not disgraced its two-star rating.
After reopening the system page, Han Jiang noticed a few things he had missed.
A new line reading "Can Evolve" had appeared after Domain Gear.
Domain Gear (D-rank, unnamed), promotion requirements: 100 Evolution Points, ten Schicksal Soldier Cores.
There was also something beneath the Domain Gear called an inventory. After opening it, an image of the Muramasa of Bizen slowly rotated in midair.
Muramasa of Bizen (one star, can evolve), requirements: five kilograms of pig iron and two Deadwalker Claws, costs ten Evolution Points.
Han Jiang thought, No wonder it chipped after cutting fewer than twenty Deadwalkers. So it's only one star right now.
Since five kilograms of pig iron and two Deadwalker Claws would be easy enough to obtain, Han Jiang decided to give it a try.
"Hey, student, come over here."
Just as Han Jiang eagerly prepared to gather materials and evolve his treasured sword, the captain in the distance called out to him.
Seeing Fu Hua standing over there, Han Jiang jogged over and asked, "What is it?"
"Han Jiang, a student of Canghai City No. 4 Middle School. He has already been admitted to our high school. His parents died years ago during a Honkai outbreak, and he grew up in the Second Welfare Center. He usually earns excellent grades and has an upright character."
"His teachers have given him high evaluations, and he performed outstandingly in this Honkai outbreak. He is also a rare male with a high degree of Honkai Energy compatibility. Therefore, we recommend that you attend St. Freya High School in the Schicksal Far East Branch. Do you agree?"
The captain looked as though he had already arranged Han Jiang's future path and gave him no chance to object.
"???"
Han Jiang was stunned for a moment. What the captain had said at first was the identity that the system had arranged for him.
As for the rest, Han Jiang felt like flowers were blooming in his heart as he listened.
He had been worrying over how to reasonably latch onto Immortal Fu Hua's thigh, and now, just as he got sleepy, someone had brought him a pillow.
"St. Freya High School is the best school in the world for training Valkyries. In three days, you will head there with classmate Fu Hua to study. After graduation, you will return to Canghai City and directly become a member of the combat force," the captain continued.
