The faint morning light streamed through the enormous glass windows, spilling across the clean, orderly airport terminal.
A simply dressed Little Girl held her mother's hand as she walked through the crowd, curiously looking at the passersby around her.
"Is this Mote City?"
The Little Girl looked up at the signs around the airport and asked softly.
"Yes, this is Mote City, the capital of the Ika Republic."
Her mother glanced at her with a smile. "It's one of the largest cities in West Land."
"We'll go to the hotel first, get checked in, and then go out to have fun."
Her father, who was pulling a suitcase beside them, glanced at the Little Girl and smiled as well.
"Mm-hmm."
The Little Girl nodded obediently, then turned her gaze toward the enormous floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the distance.
Beyond the glass stretched a continuous expanse of buildings.
She stood on tiptoe, trying to see farther, but it did not seem to help much.
After craning her neck and looking around for a while, she looked up at the mother holding her hand. "Mom, I can't see the sea. The buildings are blocking it."
"Mote City is different from Newland. Mote City is an inland city."
Her mother looked at her daughter and smiled. "There's no sea here."
"No sea?"
The Little Girl blinked. "Is this all an island?"
"You could think of it that way."
Her father thought for a moment before speaking slowly. "Mote City is on a very, very large island. It would take a long, long time to drive from one end of the island to the other. And Mote City is far from the coast, so you can't see the sea with the naked eye."
