Chapter 1223: The End of the Night (Long Chapter, Asking for Monthly Tickets)
"Commander."
The young soldier hurried to the gray-uniformed officer's side and quickly reported, "News from the front: we have broken through the enemy's first line of defense before Northern Gate and have reached the defensive installations they built there."
"How long did it take?"
The gray-uniformed officer lowered his head and asked hoarsely.
"In total..."
The soldier froze slightly. He lowered his head, glanced at his wristband, then said after a brief pause, "Twenty-three minutes."
"Twenty-three minutes, just to break through the first outer defensive position."
The gray-uniformed officer spoke slowly.
"According to the reports from the front,"
the soldier immediately explained, "the enemy's resistance was extremely stubborn. They were even willing to die, creating far more obstacles than we anticipated."
He paused, then continued, "And the enemy seems to possess some kind of terrifying special technique. It can cover the battlefield for a short time and revive severely wounded people."
His voice gradually lowered. "The soldiers at the front were affected after seeing it. Some have become afraid to fight, believing the enemy has divine aid and that we cannot possibly win.
"Seeing an enemy they had nearly killed just moments ago suddenly jump back up was indeed a heavy blow to their morale."
"I saw it,"
the gray-uniformed officer said calmly. "Nothing more than a crude trick of the Church of Life. Its use is limited, or they would not have waited until the end to employ it. Its range is limited too; it cannot cover the entire battlefield.
"There is no need to worry about that ability. If the other side truly had a god's protection, the war would have ended completely the moment it began."
He stared at the firelight atop the mountain.
