These figures swiftly passed through the woods, advancing along the edge of the road.
"Why did the Research Institute pick such a remote place for its headquarters?"
A figure in the darkness slowly spoke. "Moonlight's headquarters is in the busiest city center of the Tiya Empire's capital. This dump has nothing but birds shitting in it."
"These Middle Earth People are just weird. It's good that they picked this place—it makes things easier for us. When the time comes, we'll kill all the stubborn ones inside, and no one will see it," another figure chimed in.
"I think this place being so remote is bad. We can't even kidnap civilians to threaten these people," one figure muttered. "The Research Institute people think they're so moral. Catch a bunch of ordinary people, and they'll behave right away."
"Exactly. With ordinary people, we can force them to put down their weapons," a voice sneered. "Then we pretend to release them, hide behind the ordinary people, ambush them, kill them all, and eat them."
"That's a great idea! Hahahaha!" A figure licked his lips. "Too bad this place is so remote. We can't find that many hostages."
"Um," a voice in the crowd laughed, "aren't we supposed to be the good guys? Isn't slaughtering innocent people like this a little wrong?"
"Where did this brat come from? You've read so many stories they've gone to your head," the lip-licking figure retorted without hesitation. "We're Heroes saving the world. Whatever Heroes do is right. Once we succeed in saving the world, the whole world will be under our rule. Billions of people will cheer for us. By then, no one will care how we succeeded."
