As these dead rose from the ground, everyone's eyes widened slightly.
The entire world seemed to fall silent at that moment.
Even the crowds fleeing in terror fell briefly silent as the corpses around them stood up.
It was not that they were no longer afraid, but that their shock had surpassed their fear for an instant, leaving them temporarily frozen.
"Ah—they're alive—"
That piercing scream awakened the deepest fear in people's hearts, and the entire crowd instantly began fleeing even more frantically.
The corpses that had risen from the ground, still covered in blood and mangled flesh, bent their bodies back into forms that could more or less walk normally.
Then they gathered together, opened their grotesque mouths, waved their bloodstained hands, and charged furiously toward the crowd.
The middle-aged man standing among the crowd bore the brunt of it. A corpse rushed at him, opening its huge, blood-covered mouth.
The middle-aged man immediately dodged the corpse, then looked around in confusion at the corpses charging toward the crowd, his eyes filled with shock and an unfamiliar fear. "What is happening?"
Many of those corpses still wore protest signs and placards.
At that moment, he saw someone hiding behind a stone statue. The corpse attacking that person smashed the statue with a single punch, seized the person by the throat, and lifted them up.
"The believers of the God of Death have revealed their true faces," the Mercenary Captain nearby laughed loudly when he saw this. "I told you long ago that these believers of the God of Death were greedy and terrifying, but none of you believed me."
At the same time, the Mercenary carrying a camera behind him had already raised it and aimed it at the rampaging corpses.
