In the desert.
He Ao's avatar raised his head, followed the towering Stone Tablet upward with his gaze, and looked at its top.
There was nothing at the top of the Stone Tablet but a sharp point.
The pointed Stone Tablet stood like a towering arrow aimed at the sky.
And there, in the sky, was only an expanse of clear blue and the reflection of a colossal planet that nearly filled it.
At such close range, He Ao could almost make out the sprawling gray-white cities on the planet, along with the lush green nature reserves humans had carved out.
He Ao had visited that planet several times and had seen its magnificent form from afar just as often.
But this was the first time he had stood on the ground of the Main World and seen that planet so clearly.
And in his sight, in his senses, the planet was drawing closer at speed, approaching the vast ground beneath him.
As he watched, that invisible power over perception acted on his avatar once more. Without his awareness, his head slowly lowered, and his gaze leveled out.
At last, his field of vision settled at the slight upward angle it had held at the start. He could see only a little way above the Prophecy Text.
At the same time, he felt his memories gradually growing hazy, as though some force were trying to make him "forget" everything he had just seen.
This seemed to be some kind of error-correction mechanism, meant to keep the entire Cognitive Veil functioning normally after something went wrong.
But He Ao's memories did not reside in his avatar. They were in his true body's soul. Powerful as the invisible force was, fully concealing his memories would be difficult.
