Old Grandpa
My name was Anke. I was just passing by.
I'd only come over to see if I could hitch a ride.
The skinny youth stood in the blood pool, staring at the open car door and the driver hanging from his seat belt, covered in blood, eyes bulging wide. He froze on the spot.
It looked like a "robbery" had just taken place here.
Bang, bang, bang—
At the rear of the convoy, faint bursts of small-scale gunfire rang out. Several fully armed figures wearing masks and bulletproof helmets were weaving through the vehicles behind him.
The youth stared blankly at the scene and took a step back.
Thud—
His foot came down on the ground with a crisp sound.
The figures moving through the caravan stopped.
One figure in front of him spotted him, then pulled the bolt without the slightest hesitation and raised his gun.
He looked at that pitch-black muzzle, and his body instantly went taut.
Behind him was an open road. If he went back, he would have no cover at all. If the other side had a sniper or someone with good aim, he was dead for sure.
The fear of death pressed down on his body, forcing him to make a decision in an extremely short span of time.
He threw himself forward and hid behind the truck's cab.
Bang, bang, bang—
A crackling barrage instantly rang out against the front of the truck.
The youth hugged his head and rolled forward again, following the churning dirt and dust until he tumbled to the other side of the truck.
He had just breathed a sigh of relief and lifted his head when he saw a figure not far away aiming a gun at him.
