"Mutant beast?"
He Ao frowned and looked at Roger. "Where did you get that?"
Federal law stipulated that anyone who brought a mutant beast into a Fortress City without authorization faced at least twenty years in prison.
"Picked it up near the lab." Roger shrugged indifferently. He casually picked up an alloy surgical knife from beside him. Blade light danced around his nimble fingertips, and in an instant, he had neatly separated the "lizard" into three parts: flesh, bones, and hide.
He then planted the knife upright nearby and continued explaining.
"This doesn't really count as a mutant beast. It's just an ordinary creature that underwent slight mutation in a polluted environment."
"A polluted environment?" He Ao raised a brow. He clearly remembered Roger saying he had picked it up beside his laboratory. "What the hell are you up to?"
"Don't look at me like that. You know my lab is near Dawn City's sewers. The sewer system in a Fortress City might be sealed, but you can always find some interesting little things down there."
Roger smiled and shrugged. "What, Old Guy? Are you going to become some champion of justice? Still fired up with youthful passion at your age?"
Regit's memories told He Ao that Roger's so-called "near" probably meant he had simply dug a hole directly into the sewers.
He did not pursue the matter further. People who thrived in the Underground World usually had secrets of their own, and digging into someone else's secrets was terribly impolite.
Even though Regit and Roger had been fairly close, they were not close enough to exchange secrets. Roger clearly had no desire to discuss it in detail either.
So He Ao merely filed the clue away, then casually picked up the cigarettes Roger had left on the table. He
