"Mum, what is it?"
Tonks opened her eyes groggily. She had only just fallen asleep when her mother woke her.
"An Auror. An Auror from the Ministry of Magic is looking for you," Andromeda said quietly.
"An Auror?" Tonks turned to look at the pitch-black window and complained, "At this hour? Are you serious?"
When Tonks rubbed her eyes and entered the sitting room, she found one of her colleagues standing there.
"Williamson?"
"Amelia Bones is dead. There was a Dark Mark above her house." Williamson looked at the bleary-eyed Tonks and continued, "We also found Emiline Vance's body in the vicinity. She was with the Order of the Phoenix, wasn't she?"
"What? Emiline is dead?"
All sleepiness vanished from Tonks' face, and she stood there in a daze.
"Yes, she's dead. In an alley near the Bones house." After speaking, the middle-aged Auror gave Tonks' family a slight nod and turned to leave.
By the time Tonks came back to herself, the Auror named Williamson had already disappeared. Only Tonks' parents remained in the sitting room, watching her with worried expressions.
"I need to go out."
Tonks hurried back to her room to change, then rushed to 12 Grimmauld Place.
The Aurors had passed the news on to her because she was a member of the Order of the Phoenix, as was Emiline Vance. Scrimgeour hoped Tonks would relay the news to the Order or to Dumbledore.
