Professor Lupin being a Werewolf caused a modest stir at Hogwarts School, giving the students plenty of gossip to feast on for a while. Until... a week later, Hogwarts' gossipmongers paid the price.

After Professor Lupin resigned as Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, the students were astonished to discover that the school had not hired another professor to take over his work. Instead, it had simply cancelled Defence Against the Dark Arts.

That was right. Defence Against the Dark Arts had been temporarily cancelled.

The reason was that Headmaster Dumbledore had been unable to find a Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, and no one was willing to substitute for the students either.

This instantly spelled disaster for Hogwarts students facing their end-of-term exams, especially those about to sit their O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts.

Professor Lupin had not had time to tell them the key exam topics, much less the questions he thought were most likely to appear, before resigning and leaving.

Defence Against the Dark Arts had already been difficult enough; now the fifth years and seventh years were completely dumbfounded.

As a result, the Defense Association, the only thing remotely connected to Defence Against the Dark Arts and supposedly meant to tutor fifth years, became even more popular.

Some students with an especially strong survival instinct even boldly suggested that Albert teach everyone Defence Against the Dark Arts. Most absurdly, Professor McGonagall actually summoned Albert to ask what he thought.

Anyone else naturally would not have had that qualification, but a genius like Albert was an exception. Isabelle, the soon-to-graduate genius beauty, received similar treatment.

Neither agreed to teach classes for the students, but they were willing to use the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom in their spare time to go over a few key exam topics,
