"Where's the scarf I knitted for you?"

With Christmas approaching, Pomona was tidying up the Mandrakes while thinking about what gifts to give. Then she suddenly realized something. The weather was already so cold, with thick snow falling outside, yet Snape was not wearing the scarf she had given him.

The old bat was looking through materials on the Chamber of Secrets and the Basilisk. She did not know whether he had heard Pomona's question or not; he was wholly absorbed in the book in his hands.

"Where's the scarf I knitted for you?" Pomona asked again, this time tossing aside all the Mandrakes in her hands.

"The greenhouse is warm," he replied distractedly.

"What about when you're not in the greenhouse?"

He furrowed his brow, as if he had discovered a very serious problem.

"You threw it away?" Pomona asked.

"I wore it." Frowning, he turned a page.

"When?" Pomona pressed relentlessly.

"The last Quidditch match."

She thought back carefully.

He had indeed worn it, but...

"You wore a black scarf," Pomona said. "But that wasn't the color of the one I gave you."

With a bang, he snapped the book shut.

"I know you don't like bright colors, but it was Slytherin green!" she shouted at his retreating back.

Snape acted as though he had not heard her and prepared to leave the greenhouse.

"If you keep this up, I won't give you any presents!" she muttered indignantly.

"Then don't!" he snapped back unhappily, before slamming the greenhouse door shut with a bang.

Luckily, she had cast a spell on the glass. Otherwise, that slam alone would have been enough to shatter the greenhouse windows.

"Bad man," she muttered as she repotted the Mandrakes, deciding that she definitely would not give him a Christmas present this year!
