Because of Barty Crouch Sr.'s death, many old cases had been reopened. Kingsley seemed to believe there were important clues and suspicious suspects among them.
"Can you be certain Ivan Rosier is dead?" Amelia Bones asked.
"Of course. Right in front of my eyes!" Alastor Moody said gruffly.
"But Mr. Crouch signed an arrest warrant," Amelia Bones said.
"I couldn't stop him from resisting arrest, could I?" Moody said sarcastically.
"No." Kingsley suddenly said, "That was your idea."
Moody looked at Kingsley.
"You said it yourself—you would serve as bait so we could ambush him," Kingsley said.
Just as Moody stood there speechless, Amelia Bones said, "So this was not an arrest conducted according to procedure?"
"We were pursuing a dangerous Death Eater at the time, Deputy Director. I would have liked to bring a search warrant to his house, but Rosier was in hiding." Kingsley looked at Moody. "But I also thought he should not have been killed."
"He took Alastor's nose," Snape said softly. "Though I don't think having a nose would have made you look much better."
"You're no great beauty yourself," Moody shot back arrogantly.
"Then do you think someone in his family might seek revenge over this?" Amelia asked.
"The arrest was carried out in secret. Outsiders only knew that Ivan Rosier died while resisting arrest, including Minister Crouch," Kingsley said.
An old man in an ugly hat leaned over and whispered in Amelia's ear.
