Hogwarts' Great Hall served many purposes, but it was most often used as a "dining hall." There were very few occasions in a year when it was properly used for a "ceremony."

It was always filled with the smell of food rather than spices. This time, a Gryffindor Unlucky Knight had sparked a conflict between two girls over his Celestial Ball partner.
