Peeves roared in the kitchen, flinging food everywhere.
The House-elves and Food Club members hid behind all sorts of "cover" to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
Things like this had happened in the kitchen before, but usually only after someone or a ghost had angered Peeves. He did not normally come to the kitchen to play pranks.
Pomona had heard that the Dementors of Azkaban could grab things too, and that they delivered food to the prisoners. In that sense, they had something in common with Peeves.
Just then, Peeves suddenly sensed something and concentrated his "firepower" on the doorway. Pomona and the House-elves hid behind the door.
"What should we do? Should we call Bloody Baron?" a House-elf asked Pomona.
"Wait a moment," Pomona said, considering it.
There were many legends about Peeves. Some said he was a "noisy sprite," born along with the castle. Others said he had once been human, returning at the risk of his life during the Giant Wars to deliver a warning, only for no one to believe him. He died before everyone's eyes, became a ghost, and then turned into what he was now.
Peeves was quite annoying, but his pranks were usually just for fun. The expression on his face just now had been savage.
Even if the "infection" was still under control, it had affected the castle. It could not be ignored just because it did not seem serious.
The key issue now was not how to deal with Peeves, but to find whatever was stirring up trouble in the castle. What exactly was it?
