There was a chair in one of the Ministry of Magic's interrogation rooms. Igor Karkaroff had once sat in it, and it was covered in all manner of sharp spikes.

As Pomona climbed the stairs, she thought of how such chairs had once been very popular during the Inquisition. They were called Spanish Chairs.

When Pomona reached the top floor and looked in through the doorway, she saw Albus Dumbledore standing there. Before him lay the Book of Admittance and the Quill of Acceptance. Her timing was fortunate—the Quill of Acceptance had floated up again, as if preparing to write a name in the book.

"Headmaster," Pomona said from the doorway.

"Come in," Dumbledore said calmly. "Come and have a look."

Pomona walked over to Dumbledore. When she passed around his tall silhouette, she saw the Quill of Acceptance hovering in place while the Book of Admittance slowly closed, seemingly unwilling to let the quill record the name upon its pages.

"What do you think the ink is?" Dumbledore asked.

"What ink?" Pomona asked.

"Augureys always fly when it rains. Unlike other birds, they do not return to their nests to shelter from the rain," Dumbledore said slowly. "And the color of this ink is so similar to the memories in a Pensieve."

Pomona began thinking rapidly.

If Ben Cooper's memory had been extracted and used as "ink," then it was indeed possible that he had forgotten what happened at the time.

But with so many memories available, why take that particular segment?

"Are you thinking about Ben Cooper's memory?" Dumbledore asked without turning around.

"Yes, Headmaster," Pomona said. "If it truly had something to do with the memories used to create Dementors, then surely they should have taken his happiest or most painful memories."
