Georgiana walked into the "theater."
That was where she had faced a dragon alone last time. Though it had merely been a relatively docile Welsh Green Dragon, she had been wearing an anti-magic ring then. It was also here that she completed her Animagus transformation, becoming a swan and breaking free of the ring's restraints.
There was no audience in the amphitheater now, only a dozen or so cages.
"We're planning to build a magical zoo."
Georgiana turned and found Rabastan Lestrange.
"What do you think of the idea?" Rabastan asked.
Georgiana turned to look at the cages. Though the creatures inside looked strange, they were not magical animals.
"These?" Rabastan said. "Princess Polina brought them back."
"Why are they being kept here?" Georgiana asked.
"We originally intended to put them in Elic Zoo, but during the French Revolution, all the animals there were eaten." Rabastan wrinkled his nose. "So we're keeping them here for the time being."
There were no large creatures in the West Indies. She tried to determine which cage the cry that had drawn her came from, but whenever she approached, they all fell silent.
"This place was built by Lafayette." Rabastan looked at the wooden walls around them. "It was originally meant to be a prison."
"Aren't there already enough prisons in the city?" Georgiana said sarcastically.
"No, not that sort of prison. By the way, weren't you planning to build something similar in Belgium?" Rabastan said. "Bentham's circular prison."
Georgiana said nothing.
Though Bentham's original purpose had been mutual surveillance, to prevent torture and abuse.
Yet being watched was itself a form of torture. Who wanted to be gawked at like an animal in a zoo?
