Sforza Castle was built entirely of red brick, which made it look "very solid." Four round towers stood at its corners, their outer walls made of black brick and arranged in a diamond pattern, resembling black snakeskin.
Back when she had attended lectures at the Paris Agricultural Association, Georgiana had heard someone say that the color of a family's bread, like the clothes they wore, represented their wealth and status. Some cab drivers in Paris even shared black bread with their horses...
"Here." Fredley handed her an ice cream as he spoke.
"Thank you." Georgiana took it.
"I hope you're not too surprised. I haven't been here in a long time. This used to be the headquarters of the French garrison, so I have no idea what it has become inside." Fredley looked up at the gate before them. "I heard the southern tower was used as an arsenal."
Georgiana looked up. The tower housing the arsenal was tall and pointed. It was certainly magnificent, but it also looked very likely to attract lightning, and it had no lightning rod.
When they entered the castle through the gateway, it seemed that many people had once passed through here, but now it stood deserted. Though spacious, it was nowhere near as ruined and gloomy as Novara Castle, where she had stayed last time. Green lawns trimmed into geometric shapes lay everywhere.
She stood in the middle of the square and looked around.
The place reminded her of the courtyard at Hogwarts, where children took Quidditch lessons or practiced magic. The difference was that Hogwarts's courtyard was enclosed by stone walls one could walk along.
