Even the sun god rose over the mountains only because he was being coerced by a demon called Apep, while the demon waited where the sun rose, ready to swallow the sun god at any moment. The sun god could not drive the demon away through his own strength, but Zeus bestowed upon him a set of incantations. Once recited, they could paralyze Apep's limbs. They were exorcism spells, not something that could summon the dead back from the underworld and revive them."
