Ch. 581Ciri's Gift! The Witcher's Handbook and the Power of the Elder Blood!
Plot and events
- Ailin examines the gift Ciri left behind: a witcher-silver bracelet with an amber pendant that stores the novice spell Cleansing, usable three times a day. He realizes that although he met Ciri while his soul was away from his body, her gift has appeared with him in reality.
- Mary admires the bracelet and assumes it may be for her. Ailin tactfully changes the subject, saying he may soon leave on a task for Tissaia and asking Mary to help oversee the trainees at Kaer Morhen. He promises to teach her additional alchemical formulas.
- Once Mary leaves, Ailin reflects on Eredin’s ominous claim that he has found his answer and that they will meet again soon. Ailin also remains troubled by the sense of loss and impending disaster he felt on waking, though he can find no physical sign that anything is wrong.
- He checks the System notifications. Ciri’s Elder Blood has partly awakened the Witcher’s Handbook, advanced Spiral from 1/5 to 2/5, and granted him the talent Unstable Precognition.
- The Spiral upgrade unlocks a future storage cave for inanimate objects, a valuable solution to Ailin’s limited capacity for carrying potions, oils, and other equipment. It costs 100 Experience Orbs, so he plans to unlock it before leaving Kaer Morhen.
- Unstable Precognition may give Ailin occasional glimpses of the future or warnings of danger, but it is unpredictable. He wonders how it can be improved and whether finding Ciri again will advance the remaining parts of the Spiral.
- Examining the pendant’s note about supposed “marks,” Ailin suspects it may somehow help him find Ciri. He recalls that she should now be approaching the events at Stygga Castle, where Vilgefortz is holding Yennefer. Mary calls him to the Alchemy Room, and he goes to join her.
Character developments and interactions
- Ailin is grateful for Ciri’s gift but preoccupied by the System changes, Eredin’s threat, and his unexplained foreboding. He also plans to leave on Tissaia’s assignment while ensuring the witcher trainees remain at the school.
- Mary is supportive and eager to teach the trainees, though she questions what more Ailin can teach them after their rapid progress. She appears to accept his explanation and departure plans, but privately wonders whose bracelet it is—possibly Philippa’s—revealing jealousy and guarded suspicion.
- Ciri is absent but profoundly affects events: her gift and Elder Blood alter the Witcher’s Handbook and may provide a path to meeting her again.
- Eredin remains an ominous presence through Ailin’s memory of his confident promise that they will meet again.
