Hearing Elmer's explanation only made Liam Graves's expression tighten further, his brows twisting into a knot.
He said in a low voice, "No matter what, I think we still need to be careful..."
His gaze fell on Elmer, and he fired off several questions in succession.
"Elmer, have you really checked everything thoroughly? Are you certain the elevator malfunction was only an accident caused by aging? There weren't any magical fluctuations like a curse?"
"Liam, I understand your concern," Elmer replied. "All I can say is... I didn't detect anything unusual, including the curse you mentioned."
"However, there is another possibility—that because our departments are different, my perception of curses isn't that sharp..."
He made an inviting gesture toward the open elevator doors. "Perhaps you could inspect it yourself? See where the problem might be, so our Magical Maintenance Department can start resolving it."
Only after the Hit Wizards escorted those suspects away did Liam Graves raise his Wand, press his lips together, and step into the elevator.
Light flickered on and off at the tip of his Wand as he cast all kinds of investigative magic, carefully checking the elevator inside and out.
Elmer stood outside, arms folded across his chest, waiting quietly.
Only when Liam Graves walked out of the elevator did he ask curiously, "Liam, did you find anything?"
"No..." Liam Graves shook his head, not looking the slightest bit relaxed. "It does seem to have been an accident caused by the elevator aging."
"But I think we need to stay alert..." His tone shifted. "After all, that Muggle called Joseph Bonanno was working together with the other Muggle Mafia."
"Maybe those Muggle Mafia became wary, and so used some method to curse the suspects who had been caught."
"That explanation sounds reasonable..." Elmer raised an eyebrow.
