Mai Zheleng and Xin Shouyi were flushed and red-necked, neither able to convince the other, arguing until spit flew everywhere.
Bao Ruoxi—or rather, Bao Ruoxi—was caught between them, her little hands nervously clutching the hem of her clothes. She looked from one to the other, her eyes filled with helplessness, like a startled fawn.
"Old Mai! If you keep being so unreasonable, we'll go ask the young master to judge this!" Xin Shouyi was so angry his beard bristled and his eyes bulged as he grabbed Bao Ruoxi's forearm.
"Then let's go! Who's afraid of who? You think I'm scared of your tricks, Old Xin?" Mai Zheleng refused to back down, seizing Bao Ruoxi's other arm with his free hand.
Neither of them let go. Just like that, one on each side, they "escorted" the bewildered Bao Ruoxi and stormed toward Chen Xiaojun and the other two, who were drinking tea beneath the veranda.
"Young Master! Fifth Young Master! Old Gu! The three of you, please judge this!" Mai Zheleng's voice arrived before he did, his booming shout making the dead leaves tremble.
