"What do you know?"
"She isn't a follower of Aha."
"Hmm?"
Jing Yuan turned his head, gazing at Danshu.
Danshu knelt on the ground in shackles, her index finger still tapping out the time as she said flatly, "Judging from her wariness toward Cheng Lingshuang, Ninti, and her hesitation to even provoke the people around them, she is certainly not an uninhibited follower of Elation. On the contrary, she cares a great deal about her own gains and losses. Such a person wouldn't travel alongside Phantylia merely out of malicious glee; she must want something."
"You mean she also has interests she's after?"
"Likely a mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. I fear the one craving immortality isn't just Phantylia, but also Amon."
"Speak clearly. You were accomplices; you should understand them better than we do, shouldn't you?"
"There's no real understanding to speak of. Amon trusts no one. Or rather, we each had our own motives from the start, and trust was never part of the equation. But Amon isn't a simple follower of Elation. From what I've observed, letting her succeed might not be a bad thing. At least she will leave the Xianzhou directly, and perhaps even offer compensation afterward... She is rational, and not cut from the same cloth as Phantylia."
Danshu lowered her gaze, her eyes hollow and devoid of light. Aside from her index finger still tapping out the time, she said no more.
Yet her words carried a persuasive power.
It was as if she were demonstrating what it meant to be blind in the eyes, but clear in the heart.
Both Jing Yuan and Fu Xuan were observing her, sharing the same sense of regret in their hearts.
Such a talent—why had she walked this path to the end?
