She wanted some time alone to clear her head.
By chance, she arrived at the empty clearing where Aemon and Laena were.
From far away, she spotted two silver-haired figures sitting close together.
Rhaenyra halted, stunned where she stood.
At that moment, the two were getting along harmoniously.
Laena sat sideways on the grass, her pale blue gown spread out like a fishtail, as though she were a mermaid washed ashore.
Aemon sat atop the hem of her dress, making it look at first glance as if he were nestled in her arms.
His face beamed as he kept reaching into his backpack, pulling out all sorts of delicious food as though performing magic.
First came a banana, then a bunch of grapes.
He stuffed them all into her hands.
"Eat. I have lots more!"
Aemon lifted his chin, looking exceedingly generous.
"Thank you."
Laena held a pile of fruit and pastries, caught between laughter and tears.
She had said she had skipped lunch and would wait until dinner to eat.
So he had taken out a whole heap of food.
"Don't worry, there's more if it isn't enough."
After saying that, Aemon continued digging through his backpack.
People were made of iron, food was steel; skip one meal, and you'd feel famished.
