Background

Wei Zhe begins as a seventeen-year-old blacksmith’s apprentice in Beacon Tower, a northern Great Qin border town. His adopted sister, Jiang Ling’er, falls gravely ill and requires Purple River Grass, medicine the family cannot afford. Jiang Bo, his one-legged adoptive father and a former soldier, urges Wei Zhe to enlist so that he can earn money and rank. Wei Zhe accepts, determined to save Ling’er and return alive. This decision activates the Hundred Refinements to Steel system. 1 2

The system’s martial enlightenment heals injuries accumulated through smithing, doubles his strength, and grants him the foundation to grow through forging and combat. Rather than viewing the northern frontier solely as a death sentence, Wei Zhe recognizes it as the ideal battlefield for earning Tempering Points and building his future. 2

Appearance

Wei Zhe is introduced as a young man with a handsome face and clear eyes, usually wearing dark military attire or black armor. Upon returning to Xianyang as a Marquis, he rides an exceptional warhorse with an ancient Qin sword at his waist. 80

  • Wears black light armor or black Fish Scale Armor while campaigning. 38 80
  • Carries an increasingly oppressive, iron-blooded aura after prolonged warfare. 27
  • Maintains a calm, unreadable expression even when facing political opponents or battlefield danger. 80 253
  • Later possesses dark-golden divine light in his eyes and a bronze body with a jade-like luster. 235

Personality

Wei Zhe is initially driven by responsibility toward his adopted family. His ambition to rise in the army is inseparable from his determination to provide for Jiang Ling’er and repay Jiang Bo’s care. 1 2

In command, he combines discipline with practical generosity. He shares food with weaker soldiers, teaches his squad the principles behind his techniques, protects their lives through improved armor, and publicly gives defeated rivals room to save face. These choices earn the loyalty of Hu Lei, Qian Hu, Sun He, and the Tiger and Wolf Army. 9 12 14 34

As his authority grows, he becomes increasingly ruthless toward enemies and political threats. He uses terror, assassination, intelligence networks, and overwhelming force without hesitation, yet remains attentive to his soldiers’ welfare and promises lifelong support to the families of the fallen. 86 151 215 236
