Background

Wei Zhe begins as a seventeen-year-old blacksmith’s apprentice in Beacon Tower, a northern Great Qin border town. His adopted sister, Jiang Ling’er, falls gravely ill and requires Purple River Grass, medicine the family cannot afford. Jiang Bo, his one-legged adoptive father and a former soldier, urges Wei Zhe to enlist so that he can earn money and rank. Wei Zhe accepts, determined to save Ling’er and return alive. This decision activates the Hundred Refinements to Steel system. 1 2
