This couplet of doorway verse carried much poetic charm, prompting Chen Shi to linger and look twice.
"Heavenly signs and earthly signs are both my own signs. To beseech gods and ghosts is worse than beseeching oneself. Mortals struggle in the dusty world; when can they ever reach this step? Once reached, would that not be transcendence?"
He stepped up, walking into this strange ancient temple.
This ancient temple actually possessed a sandy texture as well, appearing somewhat unreal, as if a slight touch would shatter it.
A faint scent of incense permeated the temple. He looked around and saw that the interior of this temple was supported by two pillars holding up the main beam. There were no decorative patterns on the pillars, the ground was made of ordinary gray bricks, and the walls on both sides were brick walls coated with white lime, devoid of murals.
He reached out to touch the wall, and his palm actually passed straight through it.
The pillars and the ground were just the same.
This temple is not a real temple, but rather an illusion. Strange, how could I have entered an illusion?
Doubt filled his heart. Could he really have encountered a malevolent spirit?
Directly in front of him stood an incense burner, two feet tall and four feet wide, devoid of incense and filled only with ashes.
Ahead of the incense burner was a vermilion gate tower built against the wall, six feet high and about five feet wide.
The gate tower was hollow, holding a divine shrine.
The divine shrine was empty, without a divine idol.
This divine shrine is just like my own shrine. I have no divine embryo, and it has no divine idol.
Chen Shi looked left and right, discovering nothing more.
*How am I supposed
