I thought for a moment, then said to her, "I can promise to help you, but only after I finish what I need to do."
She bit her lip and thought for several seconds before nodding. "Fine. The person you're looking for isn't too far from the Jide Altar anyway."
As she spoke, she tilted her head, signaling for me to follow her.
The man hurriedly called out, "Wait, what about me?"
He jogged over to my side, wanting to come with us.
As he walked, he asked the woman, "If someone who's dying mutates into a giant, can they do it too? After mutating, won't they die anymore?"
The woman glanced at him. She had disliked him from the start, and she snapped irritably, "Who am I supposed to ask if you're asking me?"
But the man grabbed her. She looked at him with an icy expression.
"Let go!"
"You haven't answered my question yet!" The man was oddly persistent.
When someone on the verge of death heard of a way to avoid dying, it was only natural for them to cling to it like a lifeline.
"That's right. As long as there's no rejection during the experiment, they won't die."
The man's eyes darted around. "I... can I..." Before he could finish, the woman coldly said, "What you want to do is your own business. Don't drag me into it."
She shook free of his grasp.
"Let's go. I'll take you there," she said to me.
Then she turned back to the man, pointed at him, and said, "Don't follow us. Go do whatever you want. Otherwise, I'll kill you!"
Her words frightened the man. Sure enough, he remained where he was and did not follow.
"Someone who's dying can't possibly mutate successfully, right?" I asked her.
She
