The appearance of these hellhounds clearly wasn't aimed at me.
Their target seemed more like the Doctor.
Although the Doctor had been reduced to this state and looked miserable, anyone who knew him understood that losing an arm and a leg was nothing to him. Restoring his limbs couldn't possibly be harder than creating a life out of thin air, could it?
In the Doctor's words, as long as the Soul Body still existed, he could create a living person.
The hellhounds were clearly driving us toward Leopard Valley now, which left the Doctor somewhat puzzled.
But if that was the case, why had the three hellhounds left the path on the right open earlier? Shouldn't they have blocked that path and left us only the routes leading to One Line Sky and Leopard Valley?
And did they even need to drive us? Even without being driven, we would have taken this road anyway.
We soon got our answer.
Three more hellhounds appeared ahead. This time, they had us trapped from both front and back, with no paths to either side. Whether we advanced or retreated, we would eventually be surrounded and killed.
So they hadn't been trying to drive us into Leopard Valley. They had set an ambush here.
Yuan Jiang gave a bitter smile. "Looks like the path on the right was the real way out."
The Doctor shook his head. "Not necessarily. If they truly intend to wipe us out, I guarantee there are ambushes on every path. The right-hand path might even have more waiting there than what we see now. Damn it, did they move the entire Evil Dog Ridge here?"
"You said it yourself," I replied. "These beasts aren't from Evil Dog Ridge at all."
