I turned to Yuan Jiang. "Move aside. I'll do it!"
Yuan Jiang had his back to me, his voice carrying a hint of bitterness. "How am I supposed to move? Even turning around is a problem."
That was right. This place was far too narrow, and he was carrying the doctor on his back. He couldn't even turn around. An idea struck me. I braced my hands and feet against the stone walls on either side and climbed upward, then hurled a cluster of flames at the snakes in front of Yuan Jiang.
The doctor started. "Samadhi True Fire!"
The doctor recognized the Samadhi True Fire. I was already suspended above Yuan Jiang's head, and I shouted, "Take the doctor and go first! I'll handle them!"
Yuan Jiang didn't hesitate. He took two steps back to make room for me. I took his place, and he struggled to turn around before continuing forward while I faced the snake horde.
I found the leader of the snakes. It was a banded krait, highly venomous.
It raised its head as well, flicking its tongue at me, looking as though it wanted to tear me apart. From time to time, it turned to look at the smaller snakes burned by the Samadhi True Fire, visibly enraged.
The burning snakes twisted wildly, spreading the flames to other snakes. The formation of the snake horde immediately fell into chaos.
The banded krait made a hissing sound. The snakes that hadn't been burned quickly moved to both sides, while the burning little snakes began retreating in an orderly fashion, withdrawing directly from the fight.
