Across the vast plains, over a hundred police cars raced along the road. If this were Earth, people might have thought they were carrying out some important mission.
Inside the blue police car at the very front, a child kept crying out in alarm.
"Van... Vanguard, slow... slow down! You're going too fast!"
The one shouting was their Mecha King, Xiao Zhen. After discussing their destination with the City Lord, Xiao Zhen had remembered another great general—Blaze, the foremost general of City of Time.
Although Blaze was still at a low level and might not even be able to use a skill, he was an extremely important figure. Only his Thunder Half-Moon Slash could combine with Vanguard's Sky-Shaking Wave Kill to form Flowing Shadow Electric Flash, a supreme move specifically meant to deal with Tiger King.
City of Time was not in good shape right now. Rumor had it that quite a few Black Iron Beasts had already gathered nearby.
Xiao Zhen had watched the animated series, so he understood the crisis facing City of Time even better. Wild Star's foremost general, Golden Iron Beast, was leading an army of one hundred thousand soldiers, slaughtering Motorcycle Clan members everywhere in order to raise their combat levels before attacking Energy City.
One of Golden Iron Beast's army's main targets was City of Time. While City of Time was not a major city and held little strategic value, it contained a large number of Motorcycle Clan members.
The Motorcycle Clan warriors of City of Time were generally weak. In the original story, if not for Luoluo, the protagonist and Mecha King, stepping in to save them, it would likely have been destroyed long ago.
After some discussion, Vanguard and Xiao Zhen led more than a hundred police car warriors from Moon Temple to City of Time to help defend the city.
Meanwhile, the City Lord led everyone from Moon Temple in relocating. Since they had many facilities to move, their progress would be slower. They would head to Energy City first, and once the matter at City of Time was settled, the others would go there to join them.
"Xiao Zhen, you really can't handle it. You're already falling apart at this little bit of speed. Your body's too weak—you need to exercise more, especially your courage," Vanguard teased.
Xiao Zhen said helplessly, "Easy for you to say. I'm made of flesh and blood, so how can I compare to your metal shell? If the seat belt hadn't held me down, you might have flung me right out of the car."
Vanguard laughed awkwardly. "Haha, I can't help it. I'm trying to get us there faster. If we go too slowly, City of Time might already be gone by the time we arrive. Then we'll only be able to collect Blaze's body."
Xiao Zhen sighed. He knew Vanguard was just making excuses, but it was also exactly what he was worried about. Some of this world's technology was quite advanced, yet they did not even have telephones. Long-distance communication still relied on ancient radio stations.
If this world had phones, they could simply call and find out what was happening in City of Time. They would not have to race for their lives like this.
Xiao Zhen said resignedly, "Fine, drive as fast as you want, but slow down a little. My butt's about to split open from this ride."
"Haha, I'll try to keep it under control!" Vanguard smiled sheepishly, then urged, "Those in the back, speed up! If you fall any farther behind, you won't even be able to see my shadow!"
Over at City of Time, a white sports car robot said to the red sports car robot beside him, "Blaze, there have been more and more Black Iron Beasts outside lately. Go scout them out and see whether they're preparing to attack City of Time."
Blaze nodded and said seriously, "City Lord, don't worry. Leave it to me."
Before long, Blaze left City of Time. He transformed into a sleek red sports car and sped across the land.
After carefully observing the area, Blaze found that the number of Black Iron Beasts outside City of Time had continued to grow. There were fully five times as many as when he had scouted three days ago, and they had faintly formed an encirclement around the entire city. That was what worried Blaze most.
Blaze had previously received news that Wild Star's foremost general, Golden Iron Beast, was leading an army of one hundred thousand Black Iron Beasts in the continual slaughter of Motorcycle Clan robots.
According to information gathered from robots who had fled to City of Time, quite a few small Motorcycle Clan cities had already been breached by the Black Iron Beast army. The Motorcycle Clan warriors within had all become experience for their enemies' advancement.
Though City of Time was not some small city, Blaze knew his own situation best. He did not believe City of Time could withstand an army of one hundred thousand Black Iron Beasts.
More than a dozen Black Iron Beasts appeared not far ahead. Without exception, they had opened their claws, and the cannons within them were aimed directly at Blaze.
The leading Black Iron Beast swung his claw and shouted, "Fire!"
In an instant, fierce firepower swept madly toward the lone Blaze.
Blaze's face changed drastically. How could he not realize that they had prepared an ambush for him? As City of Time's defending general, he had some reputation after all.
Moreover, he had repeatedly gathered information on the Black Iron Beast army recently. They had probably discovered him, set a trap, and deliberately laid in wait for him.
Faced with the sudden barrage of shells, Blaze executed a perfect drift, dodged every shot, and sped back the way he had come at top speed, preparing to flee.
The Black Iron Beast squad leader shouted, "Don't let him run! Brothers, chase him!"
Blaze began his miserable escape. Yet along the road back to City of Time, Black Iron Beasts frequently sprang out to block him, and on several occasions, they nearly managed to keep him there.
Before he knew it, Blaze discovered that nearly a hundred Black Iron Beasts were pursuing him. He did not dare slow down. If there were only one or two, he was confident he could take them out, but if there were over a hundred... forget it!
Blaze truly was a speed-type sports car robot. His speed was far beyond what the Black Iron Beasts behind him could match. Even when they transformed into spheres, they were still a step slower.
"Ah, this is bad!" Blaze suddenly cried out.
The reason Blaze cried out was that a large group of Black Iron Beasts had appeared in front of him.
Blaze stopped as well and transformed back into his robot combat form. At this point, he no longer believed he could escape.
Nearly two hundred Black Iron Beasts had now completely surrounded Blaze. Unless he could fly, it would be difficult for him to leave this place today.
A Black Iron Beast who appeared to be of no low level stepped forward and pointed at Blaze.
"Blaze, you're surrounded now. Today is the day you die."
"Hmph!" Blaze snorted coldly and said resolutely, "Even if I die today, I'll take a few of you down with me."
The Black Iron Beast sneered. "You? Just obediently become my energy for leveling up!"
With that, the Black Iron Beast squad leader charged straight at him. Blaze did not back down, swinging his fists as he rushed forward as well.
When the Black Iron Beast and Blaze collided, the energy within both their bodies burned fiercely.
Blaze was only level five right now. He had only reached that level after taking out some weaker Black Iron Beasts during his scouting missions some time ago.
This Black Iron Beast squad leader, however, was only level four. In a one-on-one fight, he was no match for Blaze and might even become Blaze's energy for leveling up.
The moment the Black Iron Beast squad leader realized he was beginning to struggle, he immediately gave an order to the surrounding Black Iron Beasts.
"Quick, fire at him! Let's see how much punishment he can take."
"You... you're despicable..." Blaze flew into a rage upon hearing that. Seeing that he could not defeat Blaze himself, this Black Iron Beast actually ordered his subordinates to shoot him in the back. He had no honor at all.
