Background

Xiao Chen was the eldest son of Emperor Xiao Lie and initially stood as heir to the Sage Dynasty, a long-lived empire that had unified numerous surrounding nations. His imperial status, exceptional talent, inherited Sacred Bow Martial Soul, and access to immense resources made him an object of fear and deference throughout the dynasty. He entered Sea God Academy’s Sequence Positions through the Heavenly Ladder and ranked seventh without fighting his way onto the list. 437 487 523

He held major influence at Sea God Academy. The Sea God Camp was founded under his leadership, while the Gentleman Camp and Heavenly Position Camp largely supported his faction. Together, five of Sea God Academy’s ten Sequence Position disciples were associated with him. 469

At Princess Chenyu’s banquet, Xiao Chen openly favored Gentleman Camp leader Chu Cangtian over Chen Feng. He rebuked his younger brother Xiao Feng for speaking on Chen Feng’s behalf, deepening the divide between himself, Chen Feng, and the Sixth Prince. At the Two-Academy Competition, Xiao Chen fought Chen Feng again while protected by the Emperor Armor. Although the armor nullified Chen Feng’s physical, illusion, and mental attacks for much of the battle, Xiao Chen’s vital energy eventually failed under Chen Feng’s sustained assault. Chen Feng broke the armor’s defense and defeated him. 512 513 514

Subsequently, Xiao Chen was exposed as the avatar of an unknown powerful being rather than simply Xiao Lie’s son. The revelation led Xiao Lie to remove him from succession and appoint Xiao Feng as the new Crown Prince. 521 523

His long life of privilege leaves him unaccustomed to setbacks. Chen Feng’s defiance provokes visible fury, agitation, and eventually fear, as Xiao Chen cannot accept being surpassed by someone he regards as beneath him. 490 492
