"Intuition..."
Yuzo Kinoshita's eyelids twitched.
This detective... how could he calmly pronounce someone's death sentence like that?
Fujino turned back, looked at the conflicted Yuzo Kinoshita, walked over, and patted him on the shoulder. "Let me give you a piece of advice: just because you're the company's dog doesn't mean everyone else is. If someone tells you to kneel, you kneel. So next time they tell you to eat shit, are you going to eat it too?"
"But..." Yuzo Kinoshita hesitated, struggling inside.
He had indeed understood that Fujino was harshly criticizing what he had just done.
But to him, he really couldn't afford to lose this job.
If he got fired, he would be completely finished.
Fujino had naturally expected that he would have such concerns.
After all, reality wasn't some wish-fulfillment novel. There were many things to consider. Especially in Japan's work environment for corporate wage slaves, kneeling was practically nothing. Being told to eat shit was genuinely possible!
But was that really the case?
Fujino did not pause as he passed by him and continued, "If you eat dog shit, will they really calm down?"
"I'm a detective, you're an employee. We're in a client relationship. You aren't my only client, and that publishing house isn't their only one either. They have competitors, and I have other clients. You can replace me directly, and I still have other clients. Don't they have competitors too? Why not just change jobs?"
As he spoke, his steps slowed slightly. "It's damn hard to live in this fucked-up society, but knowing when to advance and retreat doesn't mean blindly submitting. You can sell your conscience for money, but if you sell your dignity, you become a dog anyone can kick... People need to have at least a little dignity, don't they?"
