In truth, not many people below recognized him. It could be said that the overwhelming majority did not know him at all, not even his name. Yet that did not stop them from knowing who he was. That legendary image, etched deep into everyone's hearts, immediately reminded them of his identity.
At a command from someone within the Black Nether Army guarding this place, they all fell to their knees in worship and cried out together, "Greetings, Nether Emperor!" A vast swath of people around them also knelt and shouted. Some merely bowed slightly to show their respect. In an instant, the scene took on the air of one man standing above all.
"Rise!" A clear, ethereal voice echoed through the air. As everyone stood, they saw only a streak of white light shoot into the Underworld passage. The white-robed scholar atop the ancient inscribed stele had vanished. After exchanging glances, everyone stared at the Underworld exit in astonishment.
At the Underworld exit on the Immortal Realm side, the white-robed, barefoot scholar drifted out. A gentle breeze swirled beneath his feet, leaving not a speck of dust upon them. Standing on the steps outside the gate, he suddenly found the sunlight dazzling, so he raised a hand to shield his eyes and slightly lifted his head to look at the blazing sun overhead.
One of the golden-robed guards stationed on either side could not stand the scholar's careless, arrogant manner of looking down on everyone. He immediately shouted angrily, "Stop! Present your token!"
The scholar turned his head and gave him a faint glance, then flashed away as a streak of light. The speaking guard flew into a rage and was about to send a signal for others to kill him, but several colleagues beside him restrained him at once.
