Accompanied by the howl of an engine like a ghost's wail, the Surveyor heavy armored hovercar descended. Air currents from its blue-flame thrusters formed visible whirlwinds across the devastated ground, whipping up sand and gravel that struck scattered construction scaffolding and vehicle wreckage with clanging sounds.
"Officer Russell... the terrorists who infiltrated the industrial park have been completely eliminated. A small number escaped, and our unit is pursuing them. However, the biological laboratory building and factory facilities have sustained severe damage."
More than a dozen Arasaka Heavy Soldiers leaped down from the aircraft, taking over the battlefield and beginning to clear corpses and recover cyberware. Among them, the squad commander, whose right collar-neck armor bore a horizontal rank insignia, surveyed the invaders' gruesome deaths. He took a deep breath, stepped over twisted, piled-up scaffolding pipes, lowered his head, and delivered his report in a deep, restrained voice.
"Bad news, but expected. There are only a handful of forces in the world capable of casually deploying armed personnel and restricted weapon stockpiles on this scale in Africa. They picked their timing perfectly. They had their eyes on my Sun Stairflower... So the information leaked. Heh."

The already-damaged roof structure of the van tore free and spun through the air, smashing violently into a building wall more than thirty meters away. Concrete fragments and ash burst everywhere, making the nearby Arasaka soldiers cleaning up the battlefield instinctively shrink their necks.
As though venting her fury, Vera kicked the innocent van apart and dropped down from its roof. Thoughtfully, she looked at the zombie trapped between the seat and seat belt inside, gnawing on a teammate's corpse while continuously growling at her.
