Of course, Mel was not the only one to receive this letter. Some had received it even earlier than he had.
The borderlands at night.
"Akai, save me!"
Kain, who had been sleeping, jolted awake from his dream. His heart trembled, and a wave of panic spread through him.
He stood up in a fluster. None of his teammates knew what had happened; they only saw Kain heading outside under the moonlight.
"Where are you going, Kain?"
"I'm going back. Lily is in danger."
They had received the letter long ago. As the Hero, he always had duties that took priority, and his foremost duty now was to face the demon race invading the borderlands.
"You can't leave now. You're the Hero, and you're also a member of the Imperial Knights. There's a war going on at the front lines. Are you planning to desert in the middle of battle?" The older man in the group grabbed Kain.
The situation was unclear, and the empire itself was in turmoil. If the Hero simply vanished before their eyes, who knew how much trouble it would cause.
The one currently holding power over the imperial family did not trust this Hero in the slightest.
"Dragon Mountain Range! Dragon Mountain Range..." Kain only kept muttering to himself. He had no desire to remain here.
Duty and personal feelings clashed within him. No matter how one looked at it, he was only a young man in his early twenties.
In the end, the Long-eared archer in the group took the initiative to speak. "The Dragon Mountain Range can only be entered from Dragonspine Mountain in Exar. You can't get up from anywhere else; it's all sheer cliffs. That mountain range is enormous. Even if you go looking for someone, you probably won't find them."
