Nobles across the land were waging war against one another, forming clear factions. For ordinary people, this was a dark age, one in which they were slaughtered and driven about like livestock.
"I don't really understand your rules. If I kill the local noble, can I take his place and rule this area?" Mel's knowledge of this world was a blank slate, leaving him with an oddly familiar sense of unfamiliarity. He still wasn't sure whether he stood at the pinnacle of this world.
If there were nobles or soldiers of even higher levels in this country, he could not act rashly. But against these troops, whose levels were so far beneath his, someone with Blood Magic skills had nothing to fear.
"Are you saying that you intend to rebel? Are you planning to make enemies of every noble in the entire empire?" The soldiers' captain narrowed his eyes. He could hear a trace of sincerity in the man's words. Was someone really this arrogant?
Mages clearly had no need to involve themselves in the disputes of ordinary people. Wherever they went, mages were highly valued.
"If that's what it takes to let ordinary people survive, then I think I'll do it." Mel's words rang with conviction.
"Is there really any need for you to go this far for a group of strangers who have nothing to do with you?" As the captain spoke, he waved a hand. Every soldier drew a crossbow in unison. The moment his hand fell again, the bolts would fly.
Mel swiftly activated Ghost God Possession. A massive phantom rose over the village, and in an instant, the soldiers' legs went weak. Their hands holding the crossbows trembled violently.
"B-Bl-Black Mage!!! Retreat!" At the captain's shouted command, he was the first to flee the village
