Mel followed the elderly man slowly toward the library of the Empire Research Institute.
"Don't you need guards?"
"Very few people can kill me. Besides, if there's even a slight disturbance, someone will come immediately. Some people in this world are born with special abilities. They're very powerful."
"Blessed Ones?" The description immediately made Mel think of such people. Some of those special abilities looked like divine authority, yet they were not apostles.
"Blessing? No, I think 'superpowers' is a more fitting description. Those abilities are innate, not bestowed by gods. Only apostles are blessed by gods." Carlos shook his head.
"So that's how it is?" Mel nodded. He had never researched this area, so he did not know the difference between Blessed Ones and apostles.
It seemed that Blessed Ones and apostles were entirely different kinds of beings.
"How do special abilities come into being? Do you know? Is it due to innate factors?" Mel continued to ask.
"Research suggests it is likely related to mana particles. The underlying logic of this world is sustained by mana. It's like those monsters that appear out of thin air, as well as the underground dungeons. They refresh almost randomly, just like in a game. Even if people keep clearing them, new treasures and monsters continue to appear."
"I noticed that too. It's like a default rule governing the world. If there's a limit to the number of monsters in a given area, could we capture and breed them? That way, we could control the generation of more monsters." Mel had some thoughts of his own, because he had discovered that every region had a limited monster cap and would not refresh endlessly.
So if all the monsters in an area were captured and raised, would new monsters stop appearing?
