Mell stayed at the manor for a while and met Claire, who had returned from the front lines. Dusty and travel-worn, she threw herself into Mell's arms.
"I should have gone to the front lines to find you. Kane and I are leaving now."

After receiving the news, she had immediately flown back to Hess City using flight magic, since teleportation arrays had not yet been set up in the newly occupied territories.
"Then we'll stay one more day."
That entire night belonged to Claire.
Early the next morning, Mell and Kane left Bernardo Manor. They first needed to deal with the signal tower on Sacred Mountain. To that end, Mell had specifically learned rock magic; at the very least, it was enough to build a tall tower.
Sacred Mountain lay north of the Holy City, near the Duchy of Wilen. The mountain range it belonged to was not as grand as the Dragon Mountain Range, but its elevation was certainly high enough.

In this era, industry was not yet so developed, and there was no wide variety of climbing equipment. To climb to such heights, one first had to overcome the problems of oxygen and temperature. From the outset, that excluded most people; only a very small number of powerful mages could climb to such elevations.
Perhaps that was why those towering peaks seemed so sacred in the eyes of the faithful: they were heights that human strength could scarcely conquer.
Mell carried Kane and flew swiftly all the way to the vicinity of Sacred Mountain.
