These past few days had been like this, and Nia had grown used to it.
But today, things were different.
"It's done."
"Hm? What's done?"
Drawn by Xiu Er's voice, Nia turned to look at her.
Xiu Er didn't answer her question, however, and simply walked straight to the entrance.
"Leaving already?"
Nia watched as she walked out the door.
To be honest, when Xiu Er first arrived a few days ago, she'd only said she needed to stay for a few days.
So her sudden departure now didn't strike Nia as strange.
With the [Codex of the Whispers] in her possession, she had already seen the prophecy of what followed—Xiu Er's departure was something she'd known about all along.
Just before closing the door, Xiu Er looked back.
Her golden, inorganic eyes stared faintly at Nia.
"Farewell."
Those two short words left her mouth, reaching Nia's ears with perfect clarity.
"...Mm. Safe travels."
Closing the door to Nia's home, Xiu Er looked out at the scenery beyond the hallway.
The entire cityscape was captured in her view.
Her pupils, like a camera lens, suddenly contracted.
Click.
This time when she stepped out, she hadn't used her disguise.
"Dimensional Device, activate."
"Host activation command detected. Dimensional Device, activating..."
"Checking remaining energy... Energy at 100%."
"Usage permission granted!"
"Open Dimensional Channel?"
"Confirm."
"Confirmation command detected. Dimensional Device activated. Dimensional Channel opening..."
The golden rhomboid crystal at the center of Xiu Er's chest began to glow with golden light.
Golden radiance shot out from the crystal, shining into the air before her.
Then, a circular teleportation gate formed from golden energy appeared in front of her.
Xiu Er stepped inside. As her body fully entered, the Golden Gate rapidly shrank until it vanished.
Thus, after three months, the Mecha-Kai species Xiu Er officially left this world. From now on, there would be no trace of her here (not counting a certain future time-traveling incident involving Origami).
Within the Dimensional Channel, composed entirely of gold.
Xiu Er looked around. The familiar environment brought her the same sense of security as when she'd first arrived.
The Angels of the spirits were all collected in her grasp.
The goal she'd set for herself back then had been smoothly accomplished.
Now, looking at the Spirit Series Armament in the [Weapon Vault], Xiu Er felt a deep sense of achievement.
Thinking back to the beginning.
Among the armaments, she hadn't found any related to [Pseudo Canon: Yan Long Xiao] or [True Codex: Star Slayer].
Knowing the plot, she naturally understood the timeline those two armaments represented.
Without [Yan Long Xiao], it meant the time point she'd crossed into hadn't yet reached the moment when the Mecha-Kai species fought the Yan Long.
So she must have crossed into an earlier time.
Moreover, she had been disconnected from the Mecha-Kai collective, becoming an isolated individual. A single Mecha-Kai unit posed a much lower threat to other races.
Fortunately, she had met the system, giving her the means to change her plans.
"Anchor placed. Data recording. Fixation successful."
"Please begin selecting the next world, Host."
"Good."
In Xiu Er's heart, the next choice had already been made.
It's decided, then!
"Target confirmed. Beginning execution."
"Dimensional Channel beginning energy supply... Energy supply complete."
"Channel stabilizing... Stabilization successful."
"Beginning assault on the Dimensional Wall."
The entire golden space began to tremble. A few seconds later, the sensation of shaking vanished.
Immediately after, an invisible shockwave swept in from ahead along the path.
Hummm—
The shockwave swept across Xiu Er's entire body. This time, he chose not to use any protection.
Just as the system had said back then, the mech's data showed that this shockwave posed no harm whatsoever.
The system hadn't lied to him.
"Assault successful. Dimensional Wall successfully breached. Welcome to the new world!"
The system's prompt sounded, and only then did Xiu Er confirm that he had indeed arrived in a new world.
"Link confirmed. Please prepare, Host. The [Gate] is about to open. Safe travels!"
Looking at the golden gate before him, opening once more just like before, Xiu Er lifted his foot with eager anticipation and stepped into the golden gate...
Volume 2: Machinery and Magic
Chapter 1: The Second Crossing
Stepping out of the golden teleportation passage, Xiu Er finally arrived in the new world for real.
His eyes were filled with dense forest, making it completely impossible for him to discern where he was.
He flew straight into the sky, soaring above the trees, looking down at the forest below. In the air, the view was best.
Hmm.
Looking far and wide, there was nothing but forest—green and only green.
'Completely impossible to identify.'
Thinking this to himself, Xiu Er raised one hand.
"—[Codex Opening]—[Pseudo-Codex]—[Codex of the Whispers]—"
The device on his head began to unfold. The part that opened was the plugin housing the [Codex of the Whispers].
He wanted to check the current time and location.
Unfortunately...
Xiu Er experienced a rare emotion: surprise.
'There's... no information at all?'
He carefully examined the virtual projection only he could see—the image displayed before his eyes.
"Unable to query current world... Analyzing world..."
Was this a matter of waiting for the [Codex of the Whispers] to analyze the world?
Right, after all, this was already a new world. Such a result seemed fairly reasonable.
For now, the all-purpose search engine was temporarily unusable, and this obviously medieval-style world naturally wouldn't have any technological products for Xiu Er to hack.
Coming from a high-tech modern society to this magic-filled medieval world without even machines—it would take some getting used to.
No helping it.
"Deploying Bio Detector. Detector activated. Beginning scan..."
Xiu Er didn't move. He simply floated quietly in the air, waiting for the detector's scan results.
But he didn't stay idle either.
Since he was already activating detectors, turning on a few more wouldn't hurt.
"Deploying Energy Detector..."
"Deploying Terrain Detector..."
"Deploying..."
Got a result.
After a carpet scan of this area, Xiu Er finally discovered a village. The Bio Detector showed there were quite a few living people inside.
The village was hidden in a forest ten kilometers away. With no cooking smoke and blocked by tall trees, Xiu Er hadn't spotted it during his initial reconnaissance.
Using the [Terrain Detector] and [Plant Detector], he produced a map of the surrounding ten kilometers.
But the map didn't matter anymore. Now that he'd scanned the exact location, Xiu Er could fly straight there.
"-[Codex Opening]-[Pseudo-Codex]-[Fake Demoness]-"
During the process, Xiu Er disguised himself again. After confirming his mechanical features were hidden, he landed outside the village gate.
He chose a spot with no one around to touch down.
Though he didn't know what time it was, Xiu Er still understood the basics of this world.
That is, this world had all the standard fantasy elements: Magic Beasts, demons, elves, dwarves—everything.
Among them, demons weren't like those in other works. In this world, they were merely humanoid man-eating beasts, an absolute "evil."
And because of that, all races were hostile to demons.
Moreover, demons were natural-born mages.
To avoid being misunderstood, Xiu Er chose to land outside the village and walk in like a normal person.
The village wasn't large, but it did have an inn for travelers to rest.
Xiu Er came here to gather some information. Since the [Codex of the Whispers] was still unusable, this was the only way.
