"Ring-ring~"
A piercing alarm woke Kimura Hachisai from his sleep.
Without even opening his eyes, he mechanically threw back the covers and sat up. After sitting blankly on the edge of the bed for half a minute, he finally spat out an irritated curse.

"What did you say?"
Kimura Hachisai's wife, Kimura Ryoko, came out of the kitchen and asked in surprise.
"Nothing. I said the weather is very nice today."
"The weather today?"
Kimura Ryoko looked at the sky outside. It was dark and overcast; there was no way it could be called nice.
"Yes! The weather is quite nice today! Hurry up and wash up. Breakfast is ready!"
Ryoko was a traditional Japanese woman. Since her husband said it was nice, then it had to be nice—at the very least, it was better than snow or heavy rain, right?
Kimura Hachisai looked at the miso soup his wife had set on the dining table and found he had no appetite at all.
During the two years he had been stationed in China, he had become addicted to Chinese food. He rotated through all kinds of breakfasts, and his taste buds had long since been spoiled.
So when he looked at this utterly simple Japanese breakfast now, it instantly felt unbearably bland, filling him with irritation.
And Kimura Hachisai was not only tired of Japanese breakfasts; he was also sick of the work these past few days.
He had returned to Japan to reunite with his family because China was on holiday for the Spring Festival.
As an employee stationed overseas year-round, such opportunities to reunite with family were extremely precious.
