Background / History
Childhood and break from the Liu household
Liu Guangtian grew up under Liu Haizhong's favoritism toward eldest son Liu Guangqi and frequent physical intimidation of his younger sons. Years of resentment made him fearful of his father but deeply hostile toward the family hierarchy. When he spoke out publicly against Liu Haizhong, he trembled while expecting to be hit. 63 340
Alongside Liu Guangfu, Guangtian ran away from home after another conflict with their father. Lin Zhen lent the brothers money and supported their decision to resist abuse; the two were later found by Yi Zhonghai, Liu Haizhong, and Silly Zhu. 74 79
Rise at the steel rolling mill
Guangtian entered the steel rolling mill's solar stove workshop and became one of the courtyard youth approval committee's eleven members. He followed Xu Damao and became one of Lin Zhen's subordinates, gaining enough protection that few workers openly troubled him. 182
He was promoted toward a foreman position, which intensified his conflict with Liu Haizhong: Guangtian believed his father wanted Liu Guangqi transferred back to Beijing specifically to restrain him. He pledged to work for Lin Zhen in the factory and increasingly treated Lin as his principal ally. 263
Family conflict and retaliation
Liu Haizhong ordered Guangtian and Guangfu out to make room for Liu Guangqi's family. The brothers resisted, moved out, and plotted against their elder brother. Guangtian began anonymously reporting people at the rolling mill whom he viewed as threats to Lin Zhen, including Guo Dapizi. 269
When Liu Guangqi and Guo Dapizi began discussing action against Lin Zhen, Guangtian collected allegations from Qin Huairu and Er Chen, then submitted anonymous letters against both men. His actions brought retaliation: Liu Haizhong and Liu Guangqi beat him, with Liu Yuhua intervening to save him. 340 347
Following Lin Zhen's advice, Guangtian forgave Liu Guangqi through the Security Section rather than pressing for his expulsion. The choice gave Guangtian moral standing and leverage over his elder brother. 348
Later family life
Guangtian unsuccessfully pursued Liu Yuhua, initially drawn by her improved appearance and housing. After she rejected him, he continued treating her respectfully and became close to her father, Liu Cheng, whom he later recognized as his godfather. Liu Cheng introduced Guangtian to another woman; Guangtian married, received a house near the suburbs, and became the father of two sons. 283 284 399 500
As his circumstances improved, Guangtian regularly visited Liu Haizhong and Second Aunt while Guangqi and Guangfu returned mainly over housing disputes. He publicly criticized his brothers' lack of filial behavior, forcing Liu Haizhong to confront the consequences of his favoritism. 400

Personality
Liu Guangtian is ambitious, status-conscious, and acutely sensitive to being overlooked. His father's favoritism left him determined to escape Liu Guangqi's shadow and prove that he was more capable than the son Liu Haizhong valued. He craves Lin Zhen's recognition and measures his success against Xu Damao and his brothers. 263 473
He is also pragmatic and self-interested. He withdrew from caring for Yi Zhonghai once he concluded that any inheritance was unlikely to reach him, and he abandoned his pursuit of Liu Yuhua when it no longer appeared realistic. 252 320
Guangtian's preferred method is indirect retaliation: gathering information, writing anonymous reports, and striking when opponents are vulnerable. These tactics make him effective but also leave him vulnerable to blackmail and violent reprisals when discovered. 269 340 343 347
Under Lin Zhen's influence, his loyalty becomes more substantial. He works intensely as construction-company manager, protects Lin's interests in negotiations, and develops a more mature sense of responsibility toward his own household. 315 457 473 516
Abilities & Skills
Workshop and construction management
Guangtian progressed from a solar stove workshop worker to foreman, deputy director, and eventually general manager of Lin Zhen's construction company. 182 263 403 457
- Managed construction projects closely enough to practically live at the worksite. 473
- Maintained construction speed and quality that Lin Zhen described as impeccable. 516
- Refused to hire Liu Guangqi and Liu Guangfu because he considered them unsuitable for demanding construction work. 494
- Received a salary increase and an apartment for his use after proving his value to the company. 516
Business negotiation
Guangtian is capable of handling high-value procurement under Lin Zhen's direction.
- Evaluated Director Chen's offer of below-market building materials before consulting Lin Zhen. 473
- Demanded a 5% deposit receipt before signing a 500,000-yuan contract. 476
- Used Lin Zhen's business reputation and financial capacity to negotiate from a stronger position. 476
- Helped expose Director Chen and Li Huaide's fraud operation, resulting in compensation through Chen's company. 481
Information gathering and anonymous reporting
Guangtian is skilled at locating grudges, collecting allegations, and using complaint channels against adversaries.
- Sent ten anonymous letters against Guo Dapizi after learning of his conflicts with Lin Zhen. 269
- Investigated Guo Dapizi through Qin Huairu and Er Chen before organizing further reports. 340
- Reported Liu Guangqi's misconduct and past behavior in an attempt to remove him from the factory. 340
- His methods can backfire: Qin Huairu blackmailed him over his involvement, while Liu Haizhong and Liu Guangqi later beat him over the reports. 343 347
Tactical self-preservation
Guangtian has learned to use institutions and alliances rather than relying on physical strength.
- Warned Liu Haizhong that assaulting a reporting worker could bring Security Section consequences. 347
- Followed Lin Zhen's plan to forgive Liu Guangqi strategically, preserving leverage instead of seeking immediate revenge. 348
- Avoids direct physical tests when outmatched; Liu Yuhua easily threw him aside during his courtship attempt. 284
Relationships

- Liu Haizhong — Father. Their relationship is defined by beatings, favoritism toward Guangqi, and Guangtian's determination to prove himself; later, Liu Haizhong recognizes Guangtian as his most dependable son. 63 263 400 517
- Liu Guangqi — Elder brother and chief rival. Guangtian resents their father's preference for Guangqi, anonymously reports him, is beaten by him, then gains leverage after forgiving his assault. 263 340 347 348

- Yi Zhonghai — A target of Guangtian's brief, profit-driven attempt at filial service. Guangtian made him a cart and handled retirement paperwork, then withdrew after deciding Yi's property was too contested. 252
