Naruto defeated Neji after Neji revealed the Hyuga branch family’s Curse Mark and the circumstances of his father’s death. Sasuke’s match against Gaara began, and Sasuke pierced Gaara’s sand defense with Chidori as a plan to overthrow Konoha quietly began outside the village.

• Naruto used more than a hundred Shadow Clones to pressure Neji, who explained the Bird in a Cage Curse Mark and his father Hizashi’s death before admitting defeat.
• The Third Hokage wondered how Naruto had learned to control the Nine-Tails’ Chakra, then Shiranui Genma announced Sasuke’s match against Gaara.
• Sasuke used taijutsu copied from Little Lee to attack Gaara, while Gaara’s sand armor blocked the blows and counterattacked.
