Because of the strange incidents in the past and today's unusual phenomenon, Cosmos at night was undoubtedly quieter and more eerie than any city Shien had visited before.
Among the crisscrossing buildings arranged without any sense of order, there were oil lamps and even magic lamps at work, but the light shining through the windows could not reach the streets. Instead, it scattered haphazardly across the walls of other buildings, narrow alleys, and neglected patches of ground. Combined with the lack of proper streets, the whole place looked exceedingly bizarre.
Naturally, no one would take to the streets in Cosmos at night like this, nor would any shops remain open, because there would be no customers to patronize them.
In a Cosmos like this, only the Knights were likely still active, patrolling while constantly investigating in an attempt to uncover the truth and source of the strange incidents. Otherwise, only bandits and the like looking to profit from the chaos would wander through the tangled paths and alleys, adding another layer to Cosmos's eerie atmosphere.
Fortunately, even under such circumstances, Shien and the others successfully found an inn and checked in.
After all, before anything happened in Cosmos, there had been plenty of tourists from outside the city. After the incidents began, bewildered outsiders from elsewhere had also been relocated here.
