Peter Jason Quill, better known as Star-Lord, was piloting his beloved Milano down onto a planet called Mogla.
The planet had been abandoned for years. Apart from a few hardy wild animals, no intelligent life lived there.
Peter Quill had come to this deserted planet because the Ravager crew he belonged to had accepted a commission to search its ruins for something called the Orb.
Peter Quill had no idea what this supposed Orb did. All he knew was that it was worth 150,000 credits, and he intended to get his hands on it before the other Ravagers arrived, then take it to the Broker and sell it himself.
He jumped out of his ship, put on his headphones, and switched on his old Walkman. Dancing along to the music for his own amusement, Peter Quill headed into the ruins where the Orb was stored.
At that moment, he was the coolest guy on the planet!
After easily getting past the ruins' door and security measures, Star-Lord tossed the Orb in his hand and was about to leave when several vicious-looking figures entered the ruins.
Facing these clearly hostile intruders and the guns they had trained on him, Star-Lord obediently raised both hands and surrendered the Orb he had barely had time to hold.
But the intruders had no intention of letting him go. Taking his 150,000 wasn't enough; they also intended to drag him off to see Ronan the Accuser.
Star-Lord was no stranger to the name Ronan. As members of the Ravagers, who were fairly well known throughout the universe, they kept tabs on people they shouldn't mess with. And among those people, Ronan the Accuser was one of the biggest headaches.
He was a warmonger with formidable personal strength and powerful, well-equipped troops under his command.
