"Sir, an unidentified... uh... speedster has appeared in Missouri."
Coulson pushed open the door to Nick Fury's office and reported to him, keeping his eyes on the tablet in his hand as he spoke.
"Oh, they've already reached Oklahoma."
"Could you explain what you mean by an unidentified speedster, Agent Coulson?"
Nick Fury was deeply dissatisfied with such a vague report.
"I'm not quite sure myself, sir." Coulson handed over the tablet. "They're moving too fast for our radar to identify them..."
"Are you sure it isn't Quicksilver?"
Whenever speedsters came up now, the first person Nick Fury thought of was Pietro, one of the leaders of the Mutant Brotherhood.
"Probably not. Or rather, he's not the only one..."
Coulson scratched his balding forehead and began explaining to Nick Fury.
Quicksilver's speed was a superpower, so when he ran, it didn't produce sonic booms, violent air currents, or other phenomena that would occur under normal physical laws.
This new speedster was different. Not only did violent air currents follow them everywhere, but sometimes they also smashed straight through obstacles in their path with tremendous force. Fortunately, they seemed to exercise some restraint, and no one had been killed or injured.
It was also clear that this person's speed ability wasn't the same kind as Pietro's. If anything, it seemed more like speed achieved through purely physical means.
Though Coulson struggled to imagine what kind of person could possess such speed, Enhanced Persons were appearing one after another these days. Someone like Superman showing up wasn't impossible.
In addition, although S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar couldn't identify the targets, it had detected two people racing all over America. The other one caused far less disturbance as he ran, so they could be fairly certain that he was Quicksilver, Pietro Maximoff.
