Ch. 681Janna: I’ve Loved You Since the Day I Was Born
Plot and key events
- Current-era Dark Seele is jealous that her Previous-era counterpart and White Seele have already won Bai Ge’s affection. In her haste to make a romantic plan, she accidentally grabs the wrong White Seele, creating a brief mix-up.
- Bai Ge gives the Herrscher of Death’s Core to the two Seeles. Unable to agree on who should receive it, they let Bai Ge decide. He splits the core—and its powers—using his unusual abilities.
- White Seele receives the Authority of Creation and becomes the Herrscher of Life; Dark Seele receives the power of decay and remains the Herrscher of Death. Both are delighted with the arrangement.
- Bai Ge asks Bronya to show the Seeles around the academy and invites them to a dorm celebration.
- A mysterious blue-haired Herrscher appears. She calls herself “Cthulhu,” a name once given to her by shipwrecked people, and asks Bai Ge to give her a new one. He refuses, explaining that he is bad at naming people, but agrees to hear her out if she has a reason for coming.
- Bai Ge feels an unexplained familiarity and physical resonance with her. He does not know it stems from having once consumed flesh from the planet-sized Honkai Beast associated with her.
Character developments and interactions
- White and Dark Seele show their enduring closeness: White Seele’s praise quickly softens Dark Seele, and each selflessly insists the other deserves the core more. Their contrasting powers make them complementary partners.
- Bai Ge expresses affection for the Seeles and reflects on how the comfort of girls like them helped sustain him through twelve cycles. He uses his power creatively to give both Seeles a chance to grow stronger.
- Bronya readily takes responsibility for guiding the Seeles, while Dark Seele is eager to learn about the current era’s enemies.
- The blue-haired Herrscher is openly delighted by Bai Ge’s attention and affectionately calls him by name. She says creating a human body was worthwhile and hints that she has watched him before. Bai Ge treats her warmly despite her mysterious identity, largely because she seems cute and fond of him.
Significant themes
- Affection and emotional support: The Seeles’ bond with Bai Ge—and with each other—reflects how companionship helped him endure past suffering.
- Selflessness and balance: The Seeles’ willingness to give the core to one another leads to a solution that lets both benefit.
- Familiarity, memory, and hidden connections: Bai Ge senses a bond with the new Herrscher without understanding its source, while she appears to know much more about him than he remembers.
- Humor amid danger: Romantic rivalry, mistaken identity, and Bai Ge’s aversion to naming contrast with the serious power and mystery surrounding the Herrschers.
