Watching the police take the unconscious Jonathan away, Batman turned back and stared at the water stains on the dining table. Under the faint light, they gleamed with a dreamy, captivating sheen.

After leaving the alley off Green Street, Batman had intended to reach one of the nearby high-rises and call for the plane. But the moment he turned around the corner of Green Street, he saw the bright glow of truck headlights casting a distinct curved pattern across the wall.

The circle of light drew closer and closer to Batman until it shone directly on his face. A massive truck drove toward him. Batman narrowed his eyes but made no move to evade it, even when it stopped less than a meter in front of him.

Batman looked up and saw a deathly pale face. Joker flashed Batman a wide grin, then rolled down the window, propped an elbow on its lower edge, leaned his head out, and said, "Look at our great hero. Arrested another evil criminal today!"

"Such a chaotic, crazy Gotham should have made me very happy. But lately, I've been miserable, all because of you! Batman! You weren't in Gotham, and I didn't even have anyone to talk to!"

Joker lit a cigarette and put it between his lips, but he did not inhale. He simply let the smoke drift out through the window as Batman looked up at the truck's looming front end.

The giant truck resembled some terrifying beast. In the past, Batman would never have allowed a truck driven by this madman to get so close to him.
