Peter, sitting outside the emergency room, looked somewhat anxious. One moment he studied the web-shooters on his wrists, the next he stared at the spiderweb pattern on his chest. He stood up, then sat back down again.
Matt's constant fidgeting gave him a headache, so he said, "Peter, Peter, calm down. I know you're worried about Schiller, but you have to understand that the three people who went in there are the world's finest surgeon and the Sorcerer Supreme, the world's greatest scientist, and the world's best good guy. With those three working together, who couldn't they save?"
"No, no, I just feel like... it isn't that simple." Peter's breathing quickened, his chest rising and falling continuously. Then he said, "I know Doctor won't die, but I just feel... feel like... something is about to happen..."
Matt paused, suddenly remembering that Peter had Spider-Sense. His current reaction probably meant there was still some twist ahead.
So he stood up as well, placed a hand on Peter's shoulder, and said, "Do you remember the meditation technique I taught you? Right, follow the rhythm of meditative breathing. Breathe... in... breathe... out... relax your muscles... follow your mind's guidance..."
Under Matt's guidance, Peter slowly calmed down, but he did not open his eyes. Matt asked in perfect understanding, "In the scene you see during meditation... what did you see...?"
"The universe... the stars..." Peter murmured with his eyes closed. "In a field of stars... countless stars were flickering..."
"The stars were flickering, and then? Was there any pattern to it? Or did you see anything else?" Matt continued asking.
"Flickering... there was a pattern... Stars, stars that had already gone dark... returned..."
At that point, Peter suddenly jolted awake. He gasped heavily and looked at Matt. "What just happened? What did I see?"
