The candlelight inside the glass shade flickered and swayed. Moonlight streamed through the tall French windows, leaving long streaks across the dark red checkered floor.
The needles of the short pine tree beside the desk had fallen all over the floor. A hand holding scissors passed through the dark green leaves, and with a snip, a small branch was cut off and dropped beside a pair of leather shoes.
Schiller lightly tugged at the shirt cuff exposed beneath his suit sleeve. He used his feet to roll his wheeled office chair to the side of the desk, picked up the broom he had prepared earlier, and began cleaning up the branches and leaves he had cut off.
